REGULATIONS
of the Seventh Gavrilin Governor's International Competition for Young Musicians

THE FOUNDERS
• The Ministry of Culture of Russian Federation
• The Government of Vologda Region
The main goal of the competition is to spot and bring to light gifted musicians from Russian regions, the near abroad and other countries; to support the best traditions of music teaching, to introduce to advanced teaching methods at music secondary schools, schools of art and colleges; to acquaint the general public with works by Valery Gavrilin, the composer born in Vologda Region.

1. NOMINATIONS OF THE COMPETITION
1.1. The Seventh Gavrilin Governor’s International Competition for Young Musicians is held in Vologda from April 22 to April 27, 2019 under the patronage of the Governor of Vologda Region Oleg Aleksandrovich Kuvshinnikov.
According to the main goals of the competition students of music schools, schools of arts and colleges can participate in the following nominations:
• Piano
• Violin
• Cello
• Solo vocal performance (academic)
• Bayan, Accordion
• Entertainment (bayan, accordion, national types of folk accordions)
• Composition

1.2. For the performers (pianists, violinists, and cellists) the following age groups are established:
• Junior Group – from 9 till 13 years (inclusive);
• Intermediate Group – from 14 till 17 years (inclusive);
• Senior Group – from 18 till 21 years (inclusive).

1.3. For singers the following age groups are established:
• Intermediate Group – from 16 till 19 years (inclusive);
• Senior Group – from 20 till 25 years (inclusive).

1.4. For the performers (bayan players, accordion players) the following age groups are established:
• Junior Group – from 9 till 12 years (inclusive);
• Intermediate Group – from 13 till 16 years (inclusive);
• Senior Group – from 17 till 21 years (inclusive).

1.5. For the performers in the nomination (bayan, accordion, national types of harmonics) the following age groups are established:
• Intermediate Group – from 13 till 16 years (inclusive);
• Senior Group – from 17 till 21 years (inclusive).

1.6. For composers the following age groups are established:
• Intermediate Group – from 9 till 15 years (inclusive);
• Senior Group – from 16 till 21 years (inclusive).
The age of the competitors is defined on the 22nd April, 2019.

2. COMPETITION TERMS
2.1. The competition is held in 3 rounds in the nominations «Piano», «Violin», «Cello», «Academic vocal», «Bayan, Accordion», «Entertainment», «Composition».

2.2. The 1st round is absentee (qualifying) in the form of a preview of the jurors videos of competitors, the 2nd and 3rd rounds are face-to-face auditions.

2.3. The application forms for participation in the competition should be submitted till February 01, 2019.

2.4. The application form for participation in the competition, the consent to processing of the personal data, the agreement and the receipt for payment of the entrance fee are posted on the official website of the college www.muscollege.ru

2.5. The filled application form must be sent to the e-mail Этот адрес электронной почты защищён от спам-ботов. У вас должен быть включен JavaScript для просмотра. in the format doc or docx, and in pdf format signed by the competitor and stamped by the sending organization

2.6. To the application form is attached quality scanned copies of the following documents in the format of jpg or pdf:
• certificate of birth/ passport with registration or temporary registration of the competitor;
• pension insurance certificate;
• Individual Taxpayer Identification Number;
• consent to the processing of personal data of the competitor that contains the personal signature of the competitor ( of legal representative of the competitor);
• certificate of study;
• agreement signed by the competitor (legal representative of the competitor);
• receipt with a note of the Bank to pay the entrance fee;

In addition, the application must be attached
● creative curriculum vitae of the competitor (in the format of doc or docx)
• link to download the video files of the 1st round posted on the video hosting www.youtube.com;
• half – length photo of the competitor in the format jpg or pdf

Video recording requirements:
• The video shooting must be carried out without switching off and stopping the camera, from the beginning to the end of the program execution without mounting.
• During the execution of the program, the hands and faces of the performers must be constantly in the frame.

The entrance fee in the amount of 2000 (two thousand) roubles is paid before the submission of documents by Bank transfer. The details for payment of the entrance fee are posted on the college website www.muscollege.ru.

2.7. The above documents should be sent by e-mail attached files or by means of links. In the name of each file must be specified the name of the document, the name and surname of the competitor of the competition.

2.8. In case of double participation every nomination should be paid separately.

2.9. The applications filled in carelessly or without a complete set of the above documents will not be accepted.

2.10. The Organizing Committee of the competition will send formal invitations to the competitors who successfully passed the 1st round by e-mail no later than March 15, 2019.

Bank account details of the competitor or his / her legal representative, the competitor’s teacher and the competitor’s concertmaster.

2.12. The checking in of competitors is made only in the presence of originals of the consent to processing of personal data, two copies of the agreement signed by the sending party, and the receipt for payment of the entrance fee.

2.13. The sequence of performances during the competition is determined by a toss-up and is kept up to the end of the competition.

2.14. After the checking in of competitors and the toss-up changes in the competition program of the competitor are allowed only in exceptional cases with the consent of the jury.

2.15. The pieces from the competitive program are to be performed by heart.

2.16. The competitors should arrive at the competition with their personal accompanists.

2.17. Rehearsal classes and time for acoustic rehearsals before every round on the stage of Concert Hall in where is held the competition are given to each competitor.

2.18. The competitors should keep copies of all materials sent to the Organizing Committee together with the filled application form. In case of refusal of the competitor in the competition documents and entry fee will not be returned.

3. AWARDING OF THE LAUREATES
3.1 The Organizing Committee invites leading musicians and composers of Russia and abroad to work in the jury. The jurors are posted on the website of the college www.muscollege.ru no later than April 1, 2019.
The jury has the right:
• to adjudicate not all prizes and diplomas;
• to divide one prize between several competitors;
• to award diplomas for the best performance of various pieces;
• to award the best teachers with diplomas;
• to award the best accompanists with diplomas;
• to redistribute prizes in the amounts specified in the terms of the competition within the allocated Prize Fund.

3.2. In agreement with the Organizing Committee, it is possible to establish special and additional awards by other state, public organizations and private individuals, both Russian and foreign. The awards must be agreed with the Organizing Committee no later than the beginning of the competition.

3.3. All the competitors who have taken prize-winning places receive a rank «The Laureate of the Competition» or the «The Diplomant of the Competition».

3.4. The decisions of the jury are final and are not discussed and revised.

3.5. The laureates and diplomants of the competition are obliged to take part in all concerts arranged by the Organizing Committee during the days of the competition free of charge.

3.6. In case of disagreements by interpretation of the present terms of the competition the only valid variant is the Russian one.

4. THE PRIZE FUND
4.1. The prize fund is 1707 000 roubles and is divided into each nomination and the age group.

4.2.The prize fund is paid in roubles in the form of grant for laureates and diplomants of the competition, prizes for teachers who prepared the laureates of the competitions.

4.3. Prizes are awarded 5 best accompanists.

4.4. The Governor’s Special Prize is awarded for the best performance of a musical piece by Valery Gavrilin.

5. FINANCIAL TERMS OF THE COMPETITION
5.1. All expenditures connected with the competitors’ participation (return ticket, hotel accommodation, meals) are paid by organizations that send their performers, or competitors themselves.

5.2. The foreign competitors themselves are responsible for obtaining passports and visas. The competitors should apply to Russian consulate after receiving the formal invitation to the Competition.

5.3.The Organizing Committee books the College dormitory (19 Oktyabrskaya street, Vologda,) for the specified number of places for nonresident participants on request.

5.4. The booking of the hotels and apartments are carried out by the competitors themselves on the websites of our city.

6. THE PLACE OF THE COMPETITION
6.1. The basic places for the holding of competition are Vologda Regional College of Arts (105, Gorky Street, Vologda) and Vologda Regional State Philharmonic Society named after V. Gavrilin (21, Lermontov Street, Vologda).

6.2. The Organizing Committee, as agreed with the interested organizations, has the right to use other rooms for competitive auditions and rehearsals.

1. A part of a classical sonata or polyphonic piece.
2. An etude.
Junior Group
Round II
1. J.S. Bach. Two or Three Part Invention or Prelude and Fugue from «Well Tempered Clavier».
2. Sonata or sonatina (by Cimarosa, Kuhlau, Clementi, Scarlatti, Haydn); Sonata Allegro is performed in a Sonata of more than one movement.
3. An etude (by Czerny, Lemoine, Loeschhorn, Cramer, Clementi, Moshkovsky, Arensky, Mendelssohn, Liszt (including Youth Etudes).
Round III
(Time limit – 10 minutes)
1. A composition by a Romantic composer.
2. A piece by V. Gavrilin*.
* Only one piece must be performed, with the exception of the “Three Dances” which can be performed as a set.
Intermediate and Senior Groups
Round II
1. J.S. Bach.Prelude and Fugue from «Well Tempered Clavier».
2. A classical sonata (Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven) – Sonata Allegro or the finale.
3. A virtuoso etude (by Moshkovsky, Mendelssohn, Clementi, Liszt, Chopin, Prokofiev, Rachmaninoff, Scriabin (an Etude by Czerny, op.299, op.740 – only for Intermediate Group).
Round III
(Time limit for Intermediate Group – 17 minutes,Time limit for Senior Group – 20 minutes)
1. A composition of Romantic period (not less than 5 minutes).
2. A work of the XX century composer.
3. A piece by V. Gavrilin. The notes of works by V. Gavrilin are on the website www.muscollege.ru

VIOLIN

Intermediate Group
Round II
1. An etude for the violin (solo).
2. Two movements from Partita or Sonata for the violin solo by Bach, or two movements from a Baroque sonata.

Round III

1. An etude or a caprice for the violin (solo).

Intermediate Group
Round II
1. A Russian romance of the composers of the pre-Glinka period or works of western composers (Hendel, Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn, Weckerlin, Shubert, Shumann).
2. A folk vocal song.
Round III
1. A song by V. Gavrilin. The notes of works by V. Gavrilin are on the site www.muscollege.ru
2. One aria of a West-European composer of XVI-XVIII centuries.
3. A romance of a Russian composer.
Senior Group
Round II
1. One aria of a West-European composer of XVI-XVIII centuries.
2. A folk vocal song.
Round III
1. One aria of a Russian composer.
2. A romance or a song of a Russian composer.

BAYAN, ACCORDION
All the age groups
Round I (by video recordings)
1. A piece of cantilena character.
2. A virtuoso composition.
Junior Group
Round II (no more than 15 minutes)
1. A polyphonic piece.
2. A cyclical piece: suite, sonatina (at least 2 movements), or 3 different pieces.
3. A piece of the competitor's choice.
Round III (no more than 15 minutes)
1. A piece of cantilena character.
2. A virtuoso composition.
* Pieces of the first round may be performed.
Intermediate Group
Round II (no more than 20 minutes)
1. A polyphonic piece.
2. A long-form piece: sonatina, a part of suite or concert, suite (at least tripartite).
3. A virtuoso piece or processing of folk tunes of virtuoso character.
Round III (no more than 15 minutes)
1. A free, diverse program including works of classical and original music.
* It is possible to repeat a piece of Round I
Senior Group
Round II (no more than 20 minutes)
1. An imitative polyphony (at least 3 voices).
2. A long-form piece: sonata; concerto (at least 2 contrasting parts or part in the form of sonata allegro); suite (no less than 3 contrasting parts).
3. An original piece at the choice of the competitor.
Round III
1. A virtuoso composition of Round I
2. The performance of one of the proposed pieces accompanied by an orchestra of folk instruments:
∙ R. Galliano «Opal-concert» (it is possible to perform only part I , or II- III, or part III).
∙ A. Repnikov «Concert –Poema», final.
∙ V. Semenov «Divertimento», «Nostalgia».
∙ A. Piazzolla «Oblivion».
∙ A. Musichini, R. Galliano «Song for Joss».

ENTERTAINMENT (BAYAN, ACCORDION, NATIONAL TYPES OF FOLK ACCORDIONS)
All the age groups
Round I (by video recording)
1. A piece of cantilena character.
2. A virtuoso composition.
Intermediate Group
Round II (no more than 10 minutes)
1. Two or three diverse pieces.
Round III (no more than 15 minutes) *

* For performers of national types of harmonics are allowed the execution of a free program no more than 10 minutes (without the accompaniment of the orchestra).

COMPOSERS
All the age groups
Round I (by video recording)
1. A composition for a solo instrument.
2. A vocal composition.
3. An ensemble composition or any composition without any conditions.
The competitors present works of different genres: sonatas, variations, suites, fantasias, program and vocal cycles for solo instruments (piano, accordion and etc.) and various ensembles. Piano and vocal compositions are in more preference, as they take into account the direction of V.Gavrilin’s creativity. The intermediate group – no more than 20 minutes, the senior group - no more than 30 minutes:
Notes and video recordings of competitors are signed with the motto specified in the application form.
Intermediate and Senior Groups
Round II
1. A creative task – composing (without the instrument) on given themes (it may be themes on V. Gavrilin’s creative works or folk songs);
Round III
1. A concert consisting of the participant’s compositions which are presented for the Round I and chosen by the jury.
The competitors are responsible for the performing of their own compositions: they perform themselves or find other performers.
